Great news! As of this month, you can read me in France magazine En Route! I recently joined the magazine as a food columnist, something which gives me great pleasure to announce. I have been reading En Route for a while now and thoroughly enjoy it every time anew. It has a wonderful mix of interesting features, travel articles, columns and news on what Francophiles like myself should not miss (everything from concerts to books).
My columns will delve into the history of French food products. I have started with a look at the expatriation of Dijon mustard. Did you know that the last mustard company in Dijon closed in 2008? And that most of the seeds used in ‘Dijon’ mustard are imported from Canada? If you’re looking for authentically French mustard, Beaune is where it’s at. Here, the Edmond Fallot company produces the 100% French ‘moutarde de Bourgogne‘ as well as a wonderful selection of flavored mustards, among them the ‘moutarde au pain d’epices de Dijon‘ — excellent in a dressing for a salad with apples, walnuts and goat’s cheese! Note: in June 2014 an Edmond Fallot Boutique Atelier opened its doors in Dijon. I can’t wait to check it out when I return to Bourgogne next month.
You can find my first column on page 77. The magazine is available at all Dutch shops and newsstands. I am full of ideas for this new endeavor and can’t wait to share some of my culinary research and writing with you. Happy reading!
